Wrong Side of the Line

July 18, 2016 By Juanita Ryan 1 Comment

We are like children
imagining we can capture God
like sunlight in our mason jar—
screwing the lid on just right
holding our unique treasure tight
oblivious of all the sunlight
filling and spilling past our yard,
running across fields,
brightening meadow and trees,
waking sleeping cities,
dancing across vast seas.

We are like children
drawing a line in the dirt
unconcerned we are causing hurt,
sure we are in the right,—
that we are the ones on God’s side,
forming a tight circle
on our side of this great divide,
unaware of Jesus
over there on the other side,
working beauty in people’s lives,
oblivious, it seems, of lines.

Hello my friend! what a treat to reread one of my favorites. It is beautiful and loving and accepting of us all.
    Your sister in Spirit.
